Celebrating the Holidays!

While I reclined in my hospital bed with my leg elevated or sat in the wheelchair, the holiday bustle continued around me!

Christmas Eve ~ 2012

Rich and the kids took me to the park. Unless you've been confined, it's not likely that you can truly appreciate how awesome such a small outing as a spin around the park down the street can be...I know it didn't until now.

Everyone pitched in to prepare Christmas Eve dinner, well, almost everyone. You can see where Dylan waited and observed.

And then there were gifts for opening and new Christmas PJs for wearing!

Christmas Day ~ 2012

Waiting in the hall until the coffee is made, the Monkey Bread is in the oven, and the cameras are readied before they can see if Santa came seems to take an eternity...

But then...

After Christmas we enjoyed fun activities and just hanging out as a family. I couldn't do any WII dancing but it was fun to watch!

I could cheer on the HexBug racers!

December 27th was my two week checkup with the surgeon, Dr. Thomas Schenk. The cast was cut off, x-rays taken, stitches removed, and a new cast applied. All three breaks were mending well.

And that's a wrap for 2012! And what a year it was!

My Roommates

Yes, I am still alive...but not kicking, not with one leg still in a huge cast! I'll be living at our daughter's house in their family room for weeks yet. Today, since I have not been able to sort through Christmas photos for posting, I'm posting this adorable photo of my roommates.

Dexter is their dog; Santa brought him for Christmas two years ago. Denali is an African Spurred Tortoise. It is Shelby's classroom pet and she had the honor of bringing him home for the entire holiday school break. He resides on the Foosball table to the right of my hospital bed. Dexter's crate sits to the left of my bed next to an armoire holding one of their computers. Watching them has provided me hours of enjoyment!

This was taken December 20th, the last day of school, from my bed. Dexter was so cute that afternoon checking out the newest arrival amidst so much change in his home in so few days.

Recuperating at the Cranes'

Two and a half years later I am posting to complete 2012 following my December 12th injury.

December 17, 2012

I was released from the hospital this morning! Here is the view from the hospital bed that Rich rented so that I can live in the kids' family room for the next several weeks. Yes, the wheelchair and walker are fun novelties for Rich, Shelby and her friend Sophie with Dexter, Dylan, and Jackson!

December 18, 2012

My new digs and three very excited grands when they got home and saw all the presents that Grandpa had wrapped and brought over to place under their tree!

December 19th

My amazing family all kept me company whenever they had the time. Since I couldn't stand, Rich and Sandee helped Shelby and me make pierogi for Shelby to take to school for her class' holiday feast. Rich made, rolled, and cutout the dough; Shelby and I filled and sealed them; then Rich and Sandee boiled and fried them...what a system! We repeated the process and made them again on Christmas Eve.

December 20, 2012

Rich went with Sandee and Shawn to the Navarette Winter Break program where Shelby was a Cheerleader and in Chorus! Yet another event I had to miss.

On December 21st, Rich wheeled me over to the park and we took a spin around the sidewalks there. It was so great to be outside in the sun and open air! Not all days were great, being confined to that degree is really rough. One evening I was a bit down, but not for long because Dylan and Shelby performed Smile by Uncle Kracker and who could not be uplifted by that!?!
