Cincinnati is only about an hour's drive from Dayton and, crossing the Ohio River there, I-75 took us into Kentucky. Have you ever eaten Cincinnati Chili? Oh my...I LOVE it so we have always stopped at a Skyline Chili restaurant when passing through. I have a great recipe for it from a friend who grew up there but now buy it at Meijer.
We continued on for another 170 miles through the beautiful hills of Kentucky, stopping in Lexington for lunch at Cracker Barrel...we have one about two miles from our house, but never eat there. Does it seem more like a travel stop than a local restaurant to anyone else?
We really enjoy this more relaxed mode of travel and were happy to get parked by mid-afternoon today. As you can see, the stress of all that driving just wears the girls out...giggle
There are certainly no regrets about not traveling through the Virginias this trip since we've been there and had no special stops planned. Actually, it works out better this way because tomorrow we will Meander on down to Asheville, NC for a couple of days where we plan to tour the Biltmore House. That has been on my list of things to see for years but our original plan would have taken us far east of there. I hope cameras are allowed on the house tour!
