Transitioning Home

There have been some major changes. For example, I had the rental company pick up the wheelchair as soon as I felt comfortable walking with just the walker.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

As you see in the second photo, I was able to walk to the football field with just the walker. In the first photo, Dylan had just snapped the football and you see Jackson, in the black sport glasses, running.

Shelby had gone to a birthday party where her folks picked her up on the way to our meeting with another family for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Another victory for the Saints...they remain undeated!

We went to Sandee's and Shawn's friends' home for a Super Bowl Party. The food and the company couldn't be beat! We're so fortunate to be welcomed by all their friends.

Shelby was feeling sick on Monday afternoon so came home early and then stayed home sick on Tuesday. Can you tell that by that afternoon she had perked up quite a bit? We were just hanging out, making the head and the foot of the hospital bed go up and down and singing silly songs like I'm a Little Teapot then finding the songs on the internet with our smart phones.

We never did make it here to eat all last winter but I have had carryout sandwiches from there twice while laid up at Sandee's. Before going to my physical therapy on Wednesday, we finally had breakfast there. The food was great and the grounds are lovely. Just look at that huge Tamarisk tree Rich is standing by in the outdoor dining area.

The Running Club at the kids' elementary school participated in a meet with other district schools so Shelby's Cheer group was there to...you guessed it...cheer them on! Dylan came along just for the fun of it.

In both photos below, Shelby is in the front row, third from the right.

While we were at the park, Shawn called to say that he had two tickets to that night's hockey game and asked if Rich wanted to take Dylan. He didn't have to ask twice! He brought the tickets to the park then had to drive back up to Phoenix or Scottsdale to a late meeting. After taking Shelby and me home, Rich and Dylan were thrilled to go watch the Phoenix Coyotes host the Chicago Blackhawks!

Any morning is better when it starts with fresh-baked muffins by Shelby, our sweet baker! There were both chocolate chip and berry muffins.

The conditions were tough for watching the game on this day. It was very cold and very windy...we were all miserable. This was Sandee's first Saturday to work since starting at the library and even though I know she hated missing their game, I think she got the best deal that day! We froze sitting out there. I seem to catch this shot most often...again Dylan had just snapped the ball to Michael; Jackson and TJ are in motion.

Here is a shot of Jackson just one second before he crossed the goal line for a touchdown...finally, I caught a shot of a touchdown!

Shelby, Rich, and I went to WalMart then picked up lunch to take home for everybody. After we ate, I finished packing and Rich loaded the car. I said my goodbyes and WE went home. I have to be very careful getting into and out of the motorhome but I can manage. This was the first time I had been inside our little home since the morning of December 12th...oh my.

After unpacking and getting settled and spending time with our oh-so-excited girls we took a ride. The sunsets out here are phenomenal; just look at the fiery red glow on my beloved Superstition Mountains.

Driving a little longer, the sun had dropped to this. That is rain we were seeing in the distance.

As soon as it warmed up a bit outside on this beautiful morning, we joined our neighbors gathered at Pam and Donnie's. It is so good to be home!

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

As we headed out mid-morning to run some errands and have lunch, we saw this and drove to a great vantage point for photos. I don't always remember to share photos of the many other mountains that we also enjoy viewing since I am always raving about my beloved Superstition Mountains. The mountains in the background of this photo which are dusted with snow are the Mazatzal Mountains which include those known as Four Peaks which are at the top right side of the photo. The snow clearly illustrated the layers of mountains in this area which is just north of us.

Rich has been sick for a couple of days with yesterday being the worst. Dylan and Shelby got out of school at 11:30 so we went over there to spend the afternoon with them and do a couple loads of laundry.

They were greeted by The Girls and Dexter when they got home. Shelby had already made it past the dogs before I got to the door with the camera.

Rich had arranged for the hospital bed to be picked up this afternoon since I am managing so well at the motorhome. He had never tried out the bed so he took it for a spin before they came to get it. Bella joined him, which gave her a safe place to view Dexter and Dora going at each other...those two are like oil and water.

After the bed was gone, Shelby pulled out the big dog that my cousin, Kathy, made for the boys. Yes, that would be Kathy the Baker, there is no end to that girl's talents. She made two of these when they were very little but only one made the move to Arizona nearly nine years ago. Shelby didn't even know until today that Kathy made it and she is now even more in awe of her first cousin twice removed.(I think I have that right this time!).

We stayed to visit with Jackson a bit after he got home from school but had to leave before Sandee was off work because Rich was really tiring by then.
