Who knew? I just discovered that July 24th is designated as Cousins Day. Knocking on wood, I have had Wi-Fi the whole time we've been driving today which is why I stumbled upon this information just in time to share this photo of my favorite group of first cousins once removed. Yep, I have seen two charts depicting cousin relationships and terminology so today I officially stand corrected. I had thought that they were second cousins but that is not right.
The chart below shows that children of first cousins are first cousins once removed. Dylan will be especially interested in this information.
Happy Cousins Day to my own first cousins who are important players in many wonderful childhood memories and, though I don't see them often, are treasured members of my family.

I did not know it was cousins day thank you for letting us know.
ReplyDeleteBev, with all due respect, I think that you are reading the chart wrong. The chart tells you how the relationship between you and the children of your first cousins are "first cousins once removed". Children of cousins are second cousins, as they share a great grandparent. Bill and I are cousins, and Erin and Jenny are my first cousins once removed, and they are second cousins to my girls as they share a great-grandparent (first cousins share a grandparent)...
ReplyDeleteLove reading your blog ... one of my sister's is moving to Duluth this August. So much fun to read about.

Hi Jen, I agree with you completely and realized that error after I posted but haven't gotten back to it. I'll not correct it now because I want your comment to stand and for you to know that it makes me happy that you took the time to explain what I did eventually realize. There was another chart I saw after posting that clearly illustrated the relationship when the cousins shared a set of great-grandparents.
ReplyDeleteI hope your sister likes snow and ice and extreme cold. We have loved our time here but these winters are not for me. Be sure to eat at Grandma's Saloon & Grill when you visit!
