Tower of the Americas & Riverwalk

Taking care of business this morning meant that we finally headed out together around noon.  Since our first stop was WalMart we had a quick lunch at the McDonald's there. This fantastic mural is painted on their wall.

We drove downtown to get our bearings and locate some of the main attractions that we are planning to visit this week. With Fiesta in full swing, there is even more to do than we had anticipated. Since the skies were very clear, we decided that it was a perfect time to go to the Observation Deck of the Tower of the Americas.

Here are a couple of views of San Antonio from 750 feet up!

Downtown San Antonio

The I-10 winding through the city.

From there we walked to...are you ready?...the San Antonio Riverwalk! This is a several decades long, dream come true for me! Along the way we saw these lovely spray fountains and this fabulous sculpture.

Mi Casa es Tu Casa is the name of this terrific doorway. The coloration of the metal was spectacular.

This is the short piece of the Riverwalk that we strolled today. There will be more to come as we continue to explore the city.

The Fiesta River Parade is led by King Antonio LXXXIX of the Texas Cavaliers who serves as Monarch of Fiesta San Antonio. This is but one of several Fiesta parades. It takes place this evening on the river, sells out 17,000 reserved seats, and will entertain approximately 250,00 spectators along the Riverwalk. Restaurants along the parade route have also offered special seating areas.

Returning to our car parked at the Tower of the Americas I photographed some of the incredibly beautiful fountains in the Tower Plaza.

To make sure you get the most pleasure possible from seeing these fountains, as we did, here is a short movie of them.

Note: I assembled this post earlier except for loading the video. Since then, Rich and I watched this evening's Fiesta Riverwalk Parade on TV; it was so beautiful! All of the float barges are the same dimensions; all have live music; and all feature a local social services agency that receives support from the proceeds of Fiesta through the Texas Cavaliers Foundation. I'm beginning to see that this is an amazing city!
