A Deep Blanket of White

It resembles snow in several ways.

At first the road was paved

But then it became this...

You would slip, slide, and sink down in to it while going up and down the slopes. Here's Rich at the top of a hill with our motorhome and car in the parking lot below.

Kids of all ages...

...were sledding down the slopes and climbing back uphill over and over again.

Plows were steadily working...

...to keep the roadways clear and passable.

The wind created amazingly detailed sculptures in the drifts.

At one area there is a series of boardwalks that led me out over unspoiled terrain.

Yes, there are several similarities to snow but the differences are even more vast. This is the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. It was a blast playing in the pure white, very fine sand. It was warm on the surface and surprisingly, pleasantly cool as your bare feet sank down into it. With temps of upper 80s, wearing shorts and exploring in bare feet and sandals after a long winter of coats, wool socks, and boots was a special treat.
