Rapid City, SD

Rapid City, South Dakota is known as the City of Presidents. I thought that was solely due its proximity to Mount Rushmore, but they have taken that theme to another level. Along two downtown streets, for three or four blocks, there are life size bronze statues of the past forty American Presidents. Here are nine...can you identify all of them?

And...this President, whose name we have seen repeatedly as we traveled this past couple of weeks!

Main Street Square, in the city's downtown area, had something for everyone including a bandstand, grassy lawn, seating at tables, giant slabs of polished granite for scaling, and small businesses selling refreshments.

There was also a splash fountain...

...and a waterfall. Don't miss that great lookin' tourist in the blue shirt!

While we were walking around the downtown area admiring the statues and enjoying the Square, we happened upon an alley that has been dedicated to graffiti. What a cool idea! Why not provide a canvas for what was some amazing talent?

When it comes right down to it, isn't this what we all want?
