Houdini Girl

It is the evening of our second day meandering to Florida. Well, meandering might be a slight misnomer since we've driven nearly 800 miles these two days. Last night we stayed in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Bowling Green, KY. The accomodations there were not as serene and picturesque as the W&M Campground where we have often stayed, but the rates were identical...teehee

Now, we are parked in a KOA in Forsyth, GA for two nights and have WI-FI here. As always, Rich does an amazing job of driving in all conditions and has quickly acclimated to towing the car and driving the RV through the mountains....more about that later though.

Before we head out to find a brewsky some place, I wanted to take a minute to let you all know about Houdini Girl, Bella.

As you can see below, Rich devised a great way to secure the girls while we are driving and while we are going in and out of the RV...their safety is so important because they are darters. They wear harnesses attached to six foot leashes which are secured to the floor of the slideout. They still have the run of the RV and they can get on the couch but they can't get into the driving compartment or out the door when it's open.

All was going so well for the first hour and a half of the trip when all of a sudden, much to our surprise, Bella appeared at our elbows without her harness! She had wrapped her leash around the leg of the table several times and then somehow wiggled completely out of her harness. It wasn't broken or unhooked...she simply escaped like Houdini! At our next stop, Rich adjusted her harness a bit and we now drop the table leg so she can't wrap around it...no more escapes.

  1. Hmm.... Didn't expect your first night of retirement RV travels to be spent in a Wal-Mart parking lot!!! ;-) Just kidding! Glad to hear that all is going good on your trip. Sounds like Bella is keeping you on your toes with her houdini tricks.
