Ausable Chasm & Stoneledge Sculptures

Monday August 8, 2011

On our way to check out the ferry situation at Port Kent, NY we stopped at Ausable Chasm. Previously I shared a photo or two of the beautiful Ausable River and here is another. We have enjoyed many miles of this lively rock strewn river.

Just past Keeseville, NY on its way to Lake Champlain at Peru, the river crashes 90' over several falls at Ausable Chasm. Here are views of it from the highway bridge.
After getting information about the ferry, we drove on up to Plattsburgh, NY. On our way back, driving along the shore of Lake Champlain, we came upon the Stoneledge Sculpture Garden. It is probably a couple acres, simply a privately owned yard where many metal sculptures have been installed. You just pull off the road and stroll among the sculptures as you wish. You KNOW how I love sculptures.

This was one of my favorites!

And this was one of Rich's favorites.

There was also this magnificent portrayal of The Last Supper...

...and this sculpture memorializing the historic hanging of abolitionist, John Brown, in 1859.

There was something for just about everyone to enjoy or be challenged by at this lovely free sculpture garden.
