Schoodic Peninsula

The Schoodic Peninsula is part of Acadia National Park but is located on the mainland of Maine, not on Mount Desert Island. It's about an hour's drive and along the way we saw the fawn that I posted earlier. Schoodic Point is at the far end of the Peninsula where the ocean surf pounds at the rocky shore. It was another overcast day and the photos reflect that.

Winter Harbor Lighthouse on Mark Island with Turtle Island in the background. On a clear day you would also see Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island in the distance.

The next two photos were taken along the shore of Winter Harbor on the way to Schoodic Point.

At Schoodic Point you can walk quite a ways out and a great distance along the shore on a fairly smooth rock surface. Watch out though, it can be slippery and there are chasms between the rocks!

Continuing our drive around the peninsula; the sights in several small towns continued to amaze us. Here are two of my favorites.

When you think of Maine...isn't this it? This is in Wonsqueak Harbor.

Please, if you visit Acadia National Park make time to drive out to Schoodic Point.
